Each edition of PARIS DESIGN WEEK (PDW) provides the general public with the opportunity to discover a cutting edge programme featuring the very latest developments in contemporary creation. For the 2017 edition, more than 200 venues, some of which are exceptionally easy to access, showcase a whole world of emerging and established talents, introduce hybrid events combining art and gourmet pleasures and present new sources of inspiration in beautiful and well-thought out venues – think great, beautiful and amazing.
LA CURIEUSE BOUTIQUE. The Grand Marché Stalingrad (formerly the Rotonde de Stalingrad) is now home to a new concept store! Part gallery, part boutique, you explore the venue as you would a museum, wandering through four spaces with very distinct concepts: Transformation (well-being, fashion, design, art), Connexion (technology), Evolution (cooking) and Meditation (home, garden, relaxation, spiritual). In other words, a wide and inspirational selection in an establishment that’s making Paris’ 19e arrondissement rock!

THE WOODS GALLERY. This Montmartre concept store focussing on upcycling is the brainchild of Lauren Altounian and Simon Lecoy. In addition to sustainable fashions ‘made in Paris’ from recycled fibres and a selection of vintage design furniture, the store now proposes a year-long artist in residence programme. PDW kicks off with the Parisian illustrator, painter and draughtsman Jean-André, who will be showing his work during the capital’s great design festival.

MAISON SARAH LAVOINE. The highly fashionable Parisian designer has dropped anchor to present her sophisticated and delicate world in a stylish two-floor boutique. It’s the place to go if you’re looking to find some original creations, to pick up one of the designer’s favourite pieces found on her travels around the world or some gourmet foodstuffs. CENTRE CULTUREL DU MEXIQUE. In ‘Mé-TISSAGES’, an exhibition that features the colours of sunny climes, balanced geometric shapes and essential materials, two Mexican organisations committed to encouraging women’s autonomy have set traditional Mexican know-how free. El Camino de Los Altos celebrates the Maya-inspired textile work of some skilful weavers and ANIZA combines Mexican craftsmanship with the excellence of traditional European fabrics. GALERIE MELISSA REGAN. When Mélissa Regan, who created a network of exhibition and events spaces in Paris (The MR Agency Rive Droite / Marais) teams up with Desjeux Delaye to decorate its offices tucked away in a beautiful private apartment, the location becomes home to a marvellous ensemble of lights and carpets designed by the duo and distributed by MR Agency. 12 ceiling and wall lights will be presented from September 8th – 13th at Galerie MR14 and in the same space exclusive design company Editions Serge Mouille will be exhibiting its own lighting fixtures.

LA MAISON DU DANEMARK. Did you know that the Danish cultural centre is also home to two renowned restaurants, Flora Danica and Copenhague? A wind of change is blowing on these two flagships of Scandinavian cuisine. Recently placed in the capable hands of Chef Andreas Møller, they were entirely redesigned this year by GamFratesi (which brings together architects Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi). The two restaurants mark the iconic Danish design duo’s first French venture with a contemporary Danish brasserie vibe for Flora Danica and soft lighting and vibrant colours for Copenhague. The Red Garden at the Mandarin Oriental
Landscape designer Christophe Gautrand has transformed the garden of this luxury Parisian hotel with an unusual and original plant installation that combines the elegant, red world of the venerable gin distiller Tanqueray and the Japanese art of Shibari, or rope tying. For PDW, the venue is adding furniture designed in collaboration with Marine Peyre to its décor, an ensemble that can be admired while sipping a unique cocktail from Bar 8. From September 8th – 16th. Scents of the city by Thalys
Thalys invites you to embark on a fragrant journey with a collection of iconic scents that pay tribute to such destinations as Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Cologne. The temporary installation in a gallery in the Marais presents an olfactory geography designed by Thalys’ customers, partners and personnel.

Washi comes to Yohji Yamamoto.
A series of pieces made from handmade Japanese Ozu Washi papers comes to Y’s Yohji Yamamoto’s shop windows. The plant-based material marries perfectly with silver leaf to give rise to some truly unique creations by the duo comprising Hiroyuki Saito, the undisputed master of this art and creative director Yoshiki Uchida. 25 rue du Louvre, Paris, 1er
The arches of the Viaduc des Arts
The Viaduc des Arts is home to thirty or so arts and crafts and design professionals. A cabinet-maker, bronze worker, mosaic artist, leather worker, feather worker and many other talented artisans are hidden away under the arches of this venue’s unique architecture, each of whom will be exhibiting a major piece of their making. Edible surfaces at the Cité de la Mode et du Design
As part of its participative festival that address the theme of living together through the prism of architecture, food, fashion and plants, the Cité de la Mode et du Design hosts a mushroom farm dreamt up by Germain Bourré (Germ Studio) and Lina Tornare (Les Comestibles). In constant movement, the experimental space presents a series of pictures generated by the shoots as they evolve in the oversized micro architectures. Until now, visitors have been invited to regularly pick the results – during PDW the strange vegetable wall re-surfaces as a video projection.

FCK at Betc Design
Performing ceramic artist Frédérick Gautier, also known as FCK, is setting up an ephemeral workshop at the Magasins Généraux (near the Canal de l’Ourcq in Pantin). This concrete barge, which is steeped in history, was abandoned in the 90s, before becoming a graffiti art cathedral in the Noughities and then finally being reconverted by design firm BETC. The venue itself will provide the performing ceramic artist with inspiration as part of his action to produce everyday objects in different places that are directly inspired by his location at the time. Come and get a preview of his work from 2 pm to 4 pm from September 8th – 6th.
