Third time’s the charm: Shamsa Alabbar returns to Design Days Dubai

For her third year at Design Days Dubai, Emirati designer Shamsa Alabbar creates a brand new collection of fine jewelry.

The latest geometric heart collection, ‘Modern Love,’ was launched to time with Valentines Day last month, and will be exhibited for the first time during Design Days Dubai, along with other fine jewelry and wearable art pieces from her previous collections.

An experimental jewelry line made in Dubai and based on Arabic typography, Shamsa Alabbar’s collections usually start with traditional Arabic calligraphy—an integral part of Arab culture and heritage—reworked to create something unusual and beautiful.  Shamsa _1‘Modern Love’ – the geometric heart collection

Shamsa adds, “As a graphic designer I always had a huge interest in typography, especially in Arabic. Arabic typography has a lot of rules, and those rules have to be respected. I tried my best to follow the basic guidelines of Arabic typography, while at the same time adding my own artistic style. The whole idea behind the collection is to introduce letters as an art form. I didn’t want my pieces to be immediately legible as Arabic text; right now they look like different geometric shapes put together to create a beautiful form.”

Shamsa Alabbar’s experimental line has been designed for art and design lovers; people who are not afraid of change and being different.
