GALERIE GENDRAS RÉGNIER: CONTEMPORARY CERAMICS

The French specialist ceramics gallery returns to Design Days Dubai with a presentation of two internationally renowned artists.

Founded by Aurélien Gendras and Renaud Régnier, both aficionados of ceramic art and pottery, Galerie Gendras Régnier focuses on contemporary ceramics, with a particular interest in the application of sandstone.

With an aim to introduce tastefully chosen ceramic pieces while educating about the history of art, Galerie Gendras Régnier enjoys devoting time and energy to events such as Design Days Dubai.

At Design Days Dubai Galerie Gendras Régnier presents work by Nadia Pasquer (France, b. 1940) and Alev Ebüzzyia Siesbye (Turkey, b. 1938). Both designers are highly-respected internationally and their work features in private and public collections worldwide, including in China, Belgium, France, Japan, UK and USA.

Nigredo by Nadia Pasquer and François Righi

A collaboration by Nadia Pasquer and François Righi (France, b. 1946), "Nigredo, Prix du Feu I" and “Rouge, Prix du Feu II", bring ceramic together with paper in its most noble use.

"Habiter La Grande Ourse" by Nadia Pasquer

Nadia Pasquer's unique wall installation, "Habiter La Grande Ourse", invites us to widen our horizons with its blue stars. Nadia, a graduate of visual arts; was a professor of art in Paris between 1962 and 1974. She installed a workshop and a high temperature wooden oven in Morogues in 1974. Since 1989 she has been creating polished ceramic pieces in sawdust furnaces. Her new research includes the study of white ceramic design pieces.

Bol by Alev Ebüzzyia Siesbye

Sharing her time between Paris and Istanbul, Alev Ebüzzyia Siesbye presents three subtle bowls whose pure lines can be seen in the collections of thirty-five international museums.

Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye was born in Istanbul and studied sculpture at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, while also attending Füreya's Ceramic Workshop. She has had her own workshop since 1969 and has designed for both Rosenthal and Royal Copenhagen.

Her distinctions include the Taega Brandts Legat (1982), the Eckersberg Medal (1983), the Atatürk Gold Medal and the Sanat Kurumu Ceramics Prize (1988) and the Louis Vuitton-Moet Hennesey ‘Science pour l’Art’ prize (1990). In 2000 she was awarded the prestigious Knight of Dannebrogordenen by The Royal Court, Copenhagen.

Through these two female designers, Galerie Gendras Régnier highlights the technical excellence and sophistication of international ceramic art.
