Loulwa Al-Radwan: Arab Design Meets Modern Minimalism

Loulwa Al-Radwan, prominent Kuwaiti designer, on carving out her own path.

Loulwa Al Radwan returns to Design Days Dubai in March after her debut in 2016 with "Hidden Bookshelf", a table inspired from the feathers on a peacock tail, and accompanying Carrara marble and brass mirror.

"The fair’s a great platform for someone like me" she says, "it was the first time that I have exhibited as an independent designer,”

As founder of Inertia Design (est 2006), an interior design practice based in Kuwait working predominantly on residential projects, Loulwa makes unique pieces of furniture and accessories for special clients. It was in this stream that her design signature began to emerge and she started to develop her own line of limited edition furniture and accessories.

Loulwa Al-Radwan Showcase, Design Days Dubai 2016

In 2015, she participated in the Van Cleef & Arpels and Tashkeel Middle East Emergent Prize where her piece was selected as one of the four finalists. This propelled her into Design Days Dubai the following year, and it's what brings her back to exhibit in this year's edition of the fair.

In this short one minute video interview, Loulwa Al Radwan talks to Darine Alashy of A Minute Marvel, about her journey as a designer, and the challenges of working for someone else vision.

"It was incredibly difficult when I first started. You're in charge of everything," She says animatedly, "the moment you stop working–everything else will stop."
